Mesoscopic capacitance oscillations

چکیده
We examine oscillations as a function of Fermi energy in the capacitance of a mesoscopic cavity connected via a single quantum channel to a metallic contact and capacitively coupled to a back gate. The oscillations depend on the distribution of single levels in the cavity, the interaction strength and the transmission probability through the quantum channel. We use a Hartree-Fock approach to exclude selfinteraction. The sample specific capacitance oscillations are in marked contrast to the charge relaxation resistance, which together with the capacitance defines the RCtime, and which for spin polarized electrons is quantized at half a resistance quantum. Both the capacitance oscillations and the quantized charge relaxation resistance are seen in a strikingly clear manner in a recent experiment.

Charge transfer induced persistent current and capacitance oscillations.
The transfer of charge between different regions of a phase-coherent mesoscopic sample is investigated. Charge transfer from a side branch quantum dot into a ring changes the persistent current through a sequence of plateaus of diamagnetic and paramagnetic states. In contrast, a quantum dot embedded in a ring exhibits sharp resonances in the persistent current, whose sign is independent of the ...
متن کاملN ov 2 00 6 Magnetic flux in mesoscopic rings : capacitance , inertia and kinetics
(Received) We consider mesoscopic non-superconducting rings with an effective capacitance. We propose a Hamiltonian model describing magnetic flux in such rings. Next we incorporate dissipation and thermal fluctuations into our kinetic model. We consider kinetics in limiting regimes of strong and weak coupling to thermal bath.
متن کاملMesoscopic Josephson Effect
In the classical Josephson effect the phase difference across the junction is well defined, and the supercurrent is reduced only weakly by phase diffusion. For mesoscopic junctions with small capacitance the phase undergoes large quantum fluctuations, and the current is also decreased by Coulomb blockade effects. We discuss the behavior of the current-voltage characteristics in a large range of...

The Thouless formula G = (e 2 /h)(E c /∆) for the two-probe dc con-ductance G of a d-dimensional mesoscopic cube is re-analysed to relate its quantum capacitance C Q to the reciprocal of the level spacing ∆. To this end, the escape timescale τ occurring in the Thouless correlation energy E c = ¯ h/τ is interpreted as the time constant τ = RC Q with RG ≡ 1, giving at once C Q = (e 2 /2π∆). Thus,...

Within the context of an electron dynamic (time-dependent) perspective and a voltage driving force acting to redistribute electrons between metallic and addressable molecular states, we define here the associated electron admittance and conductance. We specifically present a mesoscopic approach to resolving the electron transfer rate associated with the electrochemistry of a redox active film t...
